How Mary Kay Works

Below is a list of the various levels of leadership in Mary Kay.
 
It seems there are many questions on the terms used by the company, maybe this will make it clear.
 
Please note- everyone starts out the same, a Consultant making 50% commission, no one gets to jump ahead or cut in line.
Those who work at this business and learn how to work smarter, not harder and who are willing to take the next step are the ones who continue up the line, but there are many many women who just enjoy their 50% commission and 50% discount. That’s a perfect place to be 🙂
 
Also of note– this is not a pyramid.
 
Personally- I do not take commission percentages from those women you’ve joined the company with me as their recruiter, they keep their full 50% commission. Mary Kay pays me commission each month based on the amount of sales those women make.
Example: Business Partner #1 orders $100, Business Partner # 2 orders $300, and Business Partner #3 orders $600, they all still make commission in full and I am written a check (on pink paper none-the-less) by Mary Kay for $40 at my current rate of 4%.

Consultant

  • Purchases Starter kit
  • Place an order of at least $200 wholesale ($400 retail) plus tax on the retail value.
  • Order at least once per year to remain a consultant

Senior Consultant

  • 1 to 2 active recruits
  • 4% commission on team orders paid by Mary Kay Corporate

Star Recruiter (Red Jacket)

  • 3 to 4 active recruits
  • 4% commission on team orders paid by Mary Kay Corporate
  • $50 team-building bonus available when 4th active recruit becomes a consultant and places a $600 wholesale order, paid by Mary Kay Corporate

Team Leader

  • 5 to 7 active recruits
  • 9% commission on team orders, but eligible to earn 13% if 5 active team members place orders of at least $200 wholesale and you personally order $600 wholesale, paid by Mary Kay Corporate
  • $50 team-building bonus paid by Mary Kay Corporate

Future Sales Director

  • 8 or more active recruits
  • 9% to 13% commission on team orders paid by Mary Kay Corporate
  • $50 team-building bonus paid by Mary Kay Corporate

Sales Director in Qualification (DIQ)

  • 10 or more active recruits in the month prior to entering the DIQ program
  • Have purchased a minimum of $1,800 wholesale products in the prior or current quarter
  • 9% to 13% commission on team orders paid by Mary Kay Corporate
  • $50 team-building bonus paid by Mary Kay Corporate
  • Requirements to complete qualification period:
    • Up to four months to complete qualification
    • $18,000 cumulative wholesale orders from self and unit
    • Minimum $1,800 wholesale ordered by the DIQ
    • Minimum of $4,000 wholesale orders per month
    • 24 active unit members (self + 23)
    • At least 10 of the 24 unit members must have ordered a minimum of $600 cumulative wholesale during the qualification period
    • Minimum of $14,000 production must be ordered by unit members other than the DIQ

Sales Director

  • 4%, 9% or 13% commission on personal team orders paid by Mary Kay Corporate
  • $100 team-building bonus available for each new personal recruit who places a $600 wholesale order paid by Mary Kay Corporate
  • 9% commission on unit orders if wholesale production is $0 to $3,999 paid by Mary Kay Corporate
  • 13% commission on unit orders if wholesale production is $4,000 or more paid by Mary Kay Corporate
  • Unit volume bonus of $100 per $1,000 of wholesale production of $5,000 or more
  • $300 unit development bonus in any month that 3 or 4 new recruits each order $600 wholesale or more OR $500 unit development bonus in any month that 5 or more new recruits each order $600 wholesale or more
  • Wellness Award Bonus of  $750 to $1,800 per year for unit wholesale production of $60,000 or more in a calendar year
  • Other contest bonuses available from time-to-time

Senior Sales Director

  • 1 to 2 first-line offspring units
  • Same compensation as Sales Director
  • 4% commission on offspring if your unit production is under $12,000 wholesale paid by Mary Kay Corporate
  • 5% commission on offspring if your unit production is $12,000 wholesale or more paid by Mary Kay Corporate

Future Executive Senior

  • 3 to 4 first-line offspring units
  • Same compensation as Sales Director
  • With 3 offspring units:
    • 4% commission on offspring if your unit production is under $12,000 wholesale paid by Mary Kay Corporate
    • 5% commission on offspring if your unit production is $12,000 wholesale or more paid by Mary Kay Corporate
  • With 4 offspring units:
    • 4.5% commission on offspring if your unit production is under $12,000 wholesale paid by Mary Kay Corporate
    • 5.5% commission on offspring if your unit production is $12,000 wholesale or more paid by Mary Kay Corporate

Executive Senior Director

  • 5 to 7 first-line offspring units
  • Same compensation as Sales Director
  • With 5 or 6 offspring units:
    • 4.5% commission on offspring if your unit production is under $12,000 wholesale paid by Mary Kay Corporate
    • 5.5% commission on offspring if your unit production is $12,000 wholesale or more paid by Mary Kay Corporate
  • With 7 offspring units:
    • 5% commission on offspring if your unit production is under $12,000 wholesale paid by Mary Kay Corporate
    • 6% commission on offspring if your unit production is $12,000 wholesale or more paid by Mary Kay Corporate

Elite Executive Senior

  • 8 or more first-line offspring units
  • Same compensation as Sales Director
  • 5% commission on offspring if your unit production is under $12,000 wholesale paid by Mary Kay Corporate
  • 6% commission on offspring if your unit production is $12,000 wholesale or more paid by Mary Kay Corporate

National Sales Director in Qualification (NIQ)

  • Offspring directors in any of the following first-line/senior/second-line configurations: 12/3/8, 11/3/9, 10/3/10 (ex. 12/3/8 = 12 first-line offspring with 3 of them seniors, and 8 second line offspring)
  • Same compensation as Sales Director
  • 5% commission on offspring if your unit production is under $12,000 wholesale paid by Mary Kay Corporate
  • 6% commission on offspring if your unit production is $12,000 wholesale or more paid by Mary Kay Corporate
  • Requirements to complete qualification period:
    • 4 consecutive month qualification period
    • Minimum $100,000 total wholesale production from personal unit plus first line offspring units  during the 4 month qualification period
    • Minimum $50,000 total wholesale production from second line offspring units during the 4 month qualification period

National Sales Director

  • 4%, 9% or 13% commission on personal team orders paid by Mary Kay Corporate
  • 13% sales director commission on personal unit orders paid by Mary Kay Corporate
  • 10% nsd personal unit commission paid by Mary Kay Corporate
  • 9% commission on first-line units paid by Mary Kay Corporate
  • 4% commission on second-line units paid by Mary Kay Corporate
  • 2% commission on third-line units paid by Mary Kay Corporate
  • $3,000 Star Consultant Bonus for firs 100 Star Consultants and each additional accumulated 100 Star Consultants developed from her Star Consultant Pool
  • 2% commission on cumulative wholesale of top 10 unaffiliated (fourth line and below) units

Senior National Sales Director

  • 1 to 2 offspring nsd’s
  • Same compensation as nsd
  • 9% commission on unit of first line who becomes nsd paid by Mary Kay Corporate
  • 4% commission on unit of second line who becomes nsd paid by Mary Kay Corporate
  • 2% commission on unit of third line who becomes nsd paid by Mary Kay Corporate

Executive National Sales Director

  • 3 or more offspring nsd’s
  • Same compensation as senior nsd
